Ahoy there,

 

Welcome to day six of our voyage. The Youth Crew awoke more refreshed this morning following a relatively calm night at sea with following winds and seas to the sights of Grassy Harbour lights. We handed-in sail and the Ship anchored in the south-west corner of the harbour. After morning brief and Happy Hour the youth crew conducted mid-voyage chats with their watch leaders, during which they had the opportunity to tick off or amend or add to their voyage aims and to-do list.

After lunch we put the crew ashore and met Mr Jim Benn who we had booked a bus tour with. He was very knowledgeable about the history of King Island, including the various ships which had been wrecked around the coast over the years. His tour included a visit to the King Island cheese factory and the main town of Currie. Whilst the crew were ashore they had a chance for a leg-stretch throwing a Frisby around and kicking a footy at a local park.

Everyone returned onboard by 1730 and then rolled into dinner, once the boat had been recovered and the upper decks were secured for sea. Staffies weighed anchor at 1830 and we proceeded to sea and commenced the passage to Port Phillip Bay.

Tonight the watches will continue honing their setting and furling skills in preparation for tomorrow afternoon’s Captain’s Setting and Furling Assessment. They will also conduct the ‘BEAREX’ leadership and teamwork activity and also the ‘Apples and Onions’ self-reflection and watch-mate observation activity during their watches overnight.
