Happy New Year and welcome to Young Endeavours first voyage for 2010, which is from Sydney to Newcastle. The Staff Crew for this voyage are as follows:
Sail Master Taff
Red Watch Leader Dan
White Watch Leader Ian
Blue watch Leader Penny
Engineer - Lindsey
The voyage commenced at 1500 today when the new Youth Crew joined Young Endeavour at her regular Sydney berth at Fleet Base East. Once gear was stowed everyone mustered on deck for my welcome address and Staff Crew introductions. With these formalities complete we farewelled family and friends then cast-off lines and proceeded across the harbour to our planned anchorage position for the night at Athol Bay, which is located just in front of Taronga Park Zoo. Once safely at anchor the Watch Leaders conducted a number of ice breaker activities' which was followed by ships tours then dinner. Once we had cleaned up from dinner it was straight into Captains and Sail Master followed by safety aloft briefs then first night climbs of the foremast.
The time is now 2200 and both White and Blue Watch have both successfully completed their first climbs to the topgallant yard (highest yard). Red Watch has just commenced their climb and it is envisaged that they should complete their climb and be back on deck by 2300. This will complete all of our programmed activities for the day and I am pleased to report that all of the Youth Crew have done extremely well.
Tomorrow morning we will depart Sydney Harbour and commence our passage down the NSW South Coast were we plan to rendezvous with the surf boats competing in the George Bass Surf Boat Marathon.
Until tomorrow, take care.
