Your participation on a voyage with STS Young Endeavour is subject to you agreeing to these terms and conditions.
1. Eligibility
- You must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
- You must be 16 to 23 years old on the day of departure of your selected voyages
- You must be able to swim 50 metres and be in good health. If selected your offer is provisional until you complete a health evaluation, which includes your doctor's approval for you to undertake the voyage. This may then be subject to further approval by the Navy Fleet Medical Officer.
PLEASE NOTE there are certain medical conditions, including some controlled by medication, which preclude participation in the voyage. These are:
- Diabetes Mellitus
- Epilepsy
- Depression and Mental Illness treated by medication
- Severe Asthma
- Communicable Diseases such as Chicken Pox, Glandular Fever, German Measles
- Broken or sprained limbs
- Pregnancy (a contra indication to sailing in Young Endeavour due to increased possibility of seasickness and other complications such as ectopic pregnancy)
- If participation is considered inappropriate by the applicant's doctor
- If selected, your offer is provisional until you sign and return the hard copy Terms & Conditions and Release and Indemnity documents that will be sent to you.

2. Selection
- On each voyage there are berths for 12 male and 12 female youth crew.
- Only one application per person is accepted. You must accept the terms and conditions online before your application can proceed.
- You can apply for as many voyages as you like but think carefully about the voyages you nominate, taking into consideration events which may effect your availability such as exam time, leave form work, family events, travel time and costs etc. Only nominate the voyages you are prepared to undertake.
- Selection for voyages is by electronic ballot conducted by the Young Endeavour Youth Scheme.
- Ballot Close date is now 28th March
- Applications for V14/04-V25/04 must be received by 28th March 2004
- The Scheme will advise you by mail of the result of your application within 14 days of the relevant closing date/s.
- If you change your address after applying, please let the Scheme know.
- If you are not successful in the ballot, your application will be kept on a waiting list in case of cancellations throughout the year. You may be selected to join a voyage at short notice.
- Berths are allocated to States and Territories on a pro-rata population basis
- Applicants can apply for voyages not allocated to their State or Territory; however no travel subsidy will be offered.
- If you previously sailed on a Young Endeavour voyage you are not eligible to apply for voyages.
3. Financial Assistance
- The Young Endeavour Youth Scheme offers financial assistance for a limited number of applicants who are unable to afford the voyage fee.
- You can apply for financial assistance for any voyages allocated to your State/Territory
- For information about how to apply for Financial Assistance, please refer to the Financial Assistance section of this website. You are unable to apply for a regular berth as well as a financially assisted berth.
4. Travel
- If you receive financial assistance from the Scheme for your voyage, we will book and pay for your travel.
- If you are selected for a regular berth on a voyage which is allocated to your State/Territory, your travel costs above the first $250.00 will be subsidised by the Scheme. This only applies to bus fares or second class rail fares (or flights where travel time is considered by the Scheme to be excessive). Your travel will be arranged by Qantas and your contribution ($250.00) must be paid to the Scheme with your voyage fee. If your travel is less than $250.00, you should arrange your own travel.
- For voyages which are not allocated to your State/Territory, you are responsible for your own travel arrangements and no travel subsidy applies.

Final Confirmation of Berth
If the Young Endeavour Youth Scheme offers you a voyage on STS Young Endeavour and you decide to accept, final confirmation will be subject to meeting the conditions of a health assessment, your acceptance of the Voyage Principles, and your signed acceptance of the Terms & Conditions. The details of the health assessment, the Voyage Principles and the Terms & Conditions will be provided with your letter of offer.
Release, Indemnity, Disclaimer
By indicating "I Agree" to the ACCEPTANCE FORM you are agreeing to be bound by the following Terms of your berth on the vessel Young Endeavour. These terms shall govern your relationship with the Young Endeavour Youth Scheme, which includes its personnel, the Commonwealth and/or their employees and contractors.
- You release the Young Endeavour Youth Scheme against all claims, demands, suits, actions, proceedings, costs, expenses, loss or damage whatsoever which you may have or may suffer now or hereafter may have or suffer or would but for this Deed have suffered in respect of loss or damage sustained or suffered directly or indirectly by you as a result of or arising out of or in connection with any claim;
- You indemnify the Young Endeavour Youth Scheme against all claims, demands, suits, actions, proceedings, costs, expenses, loss or damage whatsoever which the Young Endeavour Youth Scheme may have suffered now or hereafter may suffer or would but for this Deed have suffered in respect of loss or damage sustained or suffered directly or indirectly by the Young Endeavour Youth Scheme as a result of or arising out of any action, omission or negligence on your part;
- You fully understand the legal meaning and implications of the above release, indemnity and this disclaimer and acknowledge that Young Endeavour Youth Scheme, its personnel, the Commonwealth and/or any person employed or contracted by any of them do not accept any liability whatsoever for any loss, injury or damage which you may sustain personally or in respect of personal property at anytime prior, during or after this berth on STS Young Endeavour, which you have chosen to accept on the Terms contained in this ACCEPTANCE FORM.
Your acceptance of the Terms & Conditions comprises your agreement with the Young Endeavour Youth Scheme. |
