Harvey Bay
Ahoy Shipmates,Due to strong head winds YE motor sailed throughout last night, but come sunrise the wind had backed to the east and engines were finally shut down. Under a full set of fore and aft sails YE entered Harvey Bay escorted by a pod of enthusiastic dolphins who much to the enjoyment of the morning watch decided to utilise the bow wave as their own private playground and entertain the on watch YC, who by now had positioned themselves in the perfect viewing area out on the bowsprit. Throughout the rest of the day the focus was on sailing and sail handling, with lectures on sail theory Captains Setting and Furling drills and demonstrational tacks. These tacks are designed so that the YC can view the ship being tacked from the bridge. Once this intense period of sail work was complete we headed straight into Platypus Bay, finally coming to anchor in this very scenic part of Fraser Island at 1445. Given the intensity of the training program for the day once at anchor it was decided that the YC needed some quality down time, so it was hands to swimming stations and everyone enjoyed the next hour swimming in the crystal clear waters of Harvey Bay. After another fantastic dinner I presented my Command Day brief which was immediately followed by the YC Command team selections. By 2000 these selections were complete and after a short question period with Staff the YC settled into anchor watches for the night and a well deserved rest in preparation for the commencement of tomorrows challenging Command Day.Yours AyeCaptain Gav

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
