HALF DAY SAIL

Ahoy there everyone,A well deserved nights rest at anchor was had by all. I guarantee everyone onboard slept very soundly and for good reason, most were exhausted from Command Day. The ship weighed anchor at 0530 and conducted a transit across Moreton Bay and into the Brisbane River with scattered showers before berthing at Bulimba Barracks passing first line at 0910. We embarked our 25 half day sail guests the majority of whom came from the Down Syndrome Association of Queensland. With all guests onboard the ship we departed our berth at 1015 and conducted a sail along the Brisbane River experiencing a wonderful three hours hosting our guests. At 1300 the ship returned back alongside Bulimba Barracks where we farewelled our guests. The Youth Crew then conducted end of voyage talks before climbing aloft and placing neat harbour furls in all the square sails. The Youth Crew cooked and consumed a magnificent teak deck BBQ for dinner where we celebrated Aden Waldron’s 19th Birthday with a fantastic chocolate mud cake. The evening culminated with the Youth Crew presenting a slide show, capturing various selected moments and experiences during the voyage. This gave everyone the opportunity to reflect on the past 10 days and their amazing once in a life time journey. The remainder of the evening was spent completing end of voyage questionnaires and letters to themselves, which are returned to each Youth Crew member six months after voyage completion. The ship will depart Bulimba Barracks tomorrow morning for a final passage along the Brisbane River where we will climb aloft and man the yards with our accomplished young adventurers for a 1000 final berthing back alongside for an emotional farewell to the Youth Crew.Until then it has been an honour and privilege to sail with the Youth and Staff Crew of Voyage 09/11. I wish them all the best for their future endeavours.Carpe DiemYours AyeCaptain Damien
