Giant Clams and More Wind
Another beautiful day dawned on Wednesday with the ship at anchor off Orpheus Island. After breakfast and a quick clean, we were lucky enough to be invited ashore to the Orpheus Island Research Station for a tour of the station and the chance to snorkel on the giant clam beds. It was a calm and sunny morning which made for ideal conditions to see these beautiful creatures.Meals for the day were provided by our other chef Luke and his ‘galley slaves’ Teegan, Ivan and Antonia. As usual the food was fantastic. After lunch we sailed from the anchorage to head north around Pelorus Island before coming hard up on the wind to continue our passage south. The wind is still coming from where we want to go and the crew are certainly getting good at tacking the ship with three tacks overnight. This morning the wind strength has increased to about 25 knots and the ship is making great headway through the water at about 7 knots. Just not quite in the right direction! Our plan is to keep beating south towards the Whitsunday group of islands where we will anchor (hopefully) sometime tomorrow afternoon. We have plenty of tired but happy sailors who have come together as a tight crew in a reamrkably short space of time.Yours aye,Captain Matt.

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
