George Bass Surf Boat Marathon
Hi Everyone, This morning was fine with a light and variable north easterly breeze. By 0800 we were located 2nm to the north of Tathra sailing down wind under just the topsail. After discussions with the George Bass Surf Boat Marathon Officials it was agreed that Young Endeavour would position herself just of to the north east of the Tathra Jetty and act as the official start ship for the Tathra Pambula leg of the surf boat marathon. The start for this event was staggered with three separate groups starting at 5 minute intervals commencing with the first group at 0845. Much to the enjoyment of a very large spectator fleet Young Endeavour utilised one of her ceremonial cannons to individually start all three groups. With this commitment complete the ship departed Tathra and was quickly brought under a modified sail plan so that we could give the shore bound spectators along the coast a good view of the ship under sail as we completed the 12nm passage to Merimbula. During this passage the Youth Crew completed a good set of rotational tacks then handed in all sail just prior to the ship coming safely to anchor just to the south of the Merimbula Jetty at 1230. Following lunch the Youth Crew were ferried ashore so that they could enjoy a swim and a good leg stretch on the very popular Merimbula Beach. This evening with everyone safely back onboard we enjoyed our first teak deck BBQ’ for the voyage which was followed by a very entertaining session of three way talks’. To complete the day’s activities the Navigator gave a quick presentation on how to keep anchor watches then everyone turned in for a well deserved good nights rest at anchor. Until Tomorrow, take care.Yours AyeCaptain Gav

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
