Today has brought us glorious weather and a gentle breeze helping us westward toward King Island.
Day two on a Young Endeavour voyage is a big day.
Welcome to Voyage 02/2002 - Devonport to Geelong. Our Youth Crew (YC) are on board and we've sailed from port.
Today we sailed into port with yards manned by the YC and sang the National Anthem as we came alongside. Boy was it cold and by the time they came down the sun came out and warmed them up again.
With lots of wind to sail with and lots of smiling faces onboard our day sail was great fun.
When things looked like they couldn't get any better the wind died.
At 0630 hours this morning I handed Command of Young Endeavour to Captain Jess, 16 and she excitedly accepted the symbol of command, the telescope and then they were off.... well sort of.
It has been a long couple of days but we're here. The gale kept on coming at us even as we approached our anchorage for tonight.
Can't type too much tonight having trouble holding on. We are in the middle of a gale with 45-55 knot winds and 5-6 metre seas.
After a good break alongside in Eden we got going early Sunday morning and picked up the winds, driving us nicely in the direction we need to go.
