Favourable Fair Winds

Situation at 2000: Over the last 24 hours the Youth Crew have been busy conducting team building exercises and proving that they have the ability to safely sail the ship during tomorrow’s command day. The sail setting and furling drills provided an opportunity for each watch to demonstrate their understanding of the need for cooperation, planning and effective communication when carrying out complicated tasks in a team setting. Each watch took it in turns to set and then furlseveral sails and then discuss the success or otherwise of their efforts. Input from the other two watches allowed for lots of alternative ideas and techniques to be considered. The Youth Crew have now been briefed on what to expect during the Command Day and the weather looks like fair winds will favour themduring the 24 hours that they will be in charge of sailing the Ship. There have been some remarkable changes in the Youth Crew since wesailed from Brisbane. Tomorrow they will muster all of their new-found skills and carry out what is a major milestone in the voyage program.Thought of the day: The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.
