DUNK ISLAND
Hi Everyone,Due to limited sea room caused by the Outer Barrier Reef the ship tacked twice during the early hours of this morning. This was achieved by utilising two watches during the watch handover so as to give the off watch some much needed unbroken sleep. By morning brief Young Endeavour was located 5nm to the SE of Dunk Island sailing under a reduced sail plan due to the strong south easterly. Following morning brief I conducted Captains setting and furling drills which is the last training activity prior to Command Day. On completion of this activity all sail was handed in and the ship proceeded to anchor in Brammo Bay, which is located at Dunk Island. This afternoon the Youth Crew were ferried ashore to the beautiful Dunk Island resort where they experienced the joys of civilisation (which included coke and chocolate) for the first this voyage. By 1545 everyone was back onboard and following my Command Day brief we all enjoyed another great ‘teak deck’ BBQ (cooked tonight by Paige, Trish, Penny & Jen). This evening the Youth Crew conducted their Command Day elections then settled down in the caf to watch the movie classic ‘Around Cape Horn’. On completion of the movie the Youth Crew will settle into their anchor watches for the night and get a much need good night’s sleep in preparation for what is expected to be a challenging Command Day.Until Tomorrow, take care.Yours AyeCaptain GavÂ

Thank you Tarvi, Kaeden and Matt for your narrative of today's events. Intentions are to remain at anchor in Hunters Bay, just off HMAS Penguin, home of the RAN Diving School, a place close to my heart, having spent many a day there under training as a young Officer! The plan is to weigh anchor and proceed to HMAS Waterhen, in Waverton, to pick up our Community Day Sailors from the Windgap Foundation and take them for a sail around the harbour for 3 hours. The Youth Crew will help us host our visitors and give them an experience of Young Endeavour. We will drop them back to Waverton and then proceed to anchor in the harbour where we will have a good view of the Bridge and the Opera House for the Youth Crew's last night onboard. Until tomorrow. Yours Aye, Captain Mike
