Hi Everyone, Welcome to day three of our voyage. The conditions remained strong overnight which increased the height of the swell to 2m resulting in the onset of some seasickness in a number of the Youth Crew. By morning brief we were located 20nm to the SSE of Wilson’s Promontory sailing on a beam reach under fore and aft sail making good time crossing the Strait. As the morning progressed the wind veered to the WSW which enabled us to give the Youth Crew a brief on how to set the squares then on completion set the topsail which quickly increased our boat speed to a respectable 7-8kts. Throughout the day we continued with the training program completing our first set of competitive/non competitive rope races for the voyage which was followed by an informative navigation brief given by Adam our Navigator. As forecast the wind remained constant at 20-30kts during the afternoon which allowed us to put the ship under a full press of sail and enjoy some exhilarating sailing. By sunset this evening we were located 30nm to the north west of Banks Strait managing speeds of 8-10kts and achieving what I believe to be my fastest crossing of Bass Strait in Young Endeavour. During the early hours of tomorrow morning we will transit through Banks Strait (located on the North Eastern Point of Tasmania) then alter course to the south along the East Coast of Tasmania and make our way to our planned anchorage at the very scenic Binalong Bay. Until tomorrow, take care Yours Aye Captain Gav
