Hi Everyone, Welcome to day four of our voyage. As forecast the wind strengthened overnight and by morning brief had backed to the west. As we approached Banks Strait the swell increased due to strong tidal currents which slowed our speed dramatically and again brought on bouts of seasickness in a number of the Youth Crew. Given these conditions we stood everyone down after cleaning stations, came up on engines and made best speed to the north so that we could cross Banks Strait as quickly as possible and get in the lee of Flinders Island where we could get some protection from the westerly swell. This was achieved at 1500 and much to the relief of the Youth Crew the swell reduced to less than 1m and the wind moderated to 20-25kts. Given these improved conditions we reactivated the training program firstly with a set of rope races which was closely followed by James the Navigators navigation brief. Dinner followed with Keely amazing us with the wonderful cuisine that she consistently produces in that small galley. The time is now 2030 and we are currently located 4nm to the east of Badel Island (located on the east coast of Flinders Island) and the Youth Crew have now settled into watches overnight where they will continue to develop their practical navigation skills. Late this evening we expect to round Inner Sister Island (located at the northern tip of Flinders Island) then will shape a course to the WNW and Deal Island which we have planned as our next anchorage. Happy Birthday!! to Staffie Adam Powell who turned 25 today. Until Tomorrow, take care Yours Aye Captain Gav
