Day Five – Magnetic Island

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to Day 5 of our voyage.

The heavy rain and strong winds that the ship had experienced over the previous 24hrs eased early this morning and it was an overcast but fine morning that greeted the Youth Crew when they mustered on deck at 0630 for an early morning activity.

Breakfast, morning brief and happy hour followed then the Youth Crew were ferried ashore with cut lunches to Balding Beach where they then got to hike the 1.0km over to Horseshoe Bay, where they were given the opportunity to have a swim, check out the local shops and cafes or explore other parts of this picturesque island.

By 1530 we had everyone back onboard and following a delicious pizza diner eaten up on deck with the beautiful Magnetic Island as our backdrop we held an entertaining session of three way chats, which is a communication and getting to know you exercise.

This activity was finished by 1900 and once we had conducted a departure brief we weighed anchor and departed Radical Bay. Once in open water the engines were shut down and in light to moderate SSE winds the ship was brought under sail.

The time is now 2030 and we are currently located 6nm the north of Magnetic Island sailing in light to moderate SSE winds. Overnight the Youth Crew will continue to consolidate some navigation and sail setting and furling drills as we continue our voyage north.

Until tomorrow, take care.

Yours Aye

Captain Gav
