Day 9 – Command day part 2

Young Endeavour anchored just off Taronga zoo at 0030 hours this morning, after the youth crew sailed her from Port Hacking through the night. With no rest for the wicked, anchor watches still had to be kept, to ensure the ship did not drift, so it was a huge crowd of tired faces around the breakfast table this morning. After the flags were raised, Youthies took to the foremast to finish furling the sails, which resulted in an amazing picture of everyone hanging about in the rigging. The ship was handed back to the staff crew (with not a single scratch on her!) The crew broke off to reflect on the command day experience, it being deemed a success, albeit an exhausting one, that would not have been possible without the level of trust and respect we have developed for each other over the past 8 days. A hop, skip and jump off the rope swing later and our time is suddenly gone. Yet another phenomenal meal by chef Keely, card games are being played in the galley and laughter is ringing up the hatchway. I can’t help but think what a great day 9 It’s been. It’s getting close to 7PM, and this is where I’ve got to sign off on today’s log. There’s a disco about to go down in the ships 12 berth, and I’ve got it on good authority that there’s going to be a very special guest… Youthie Ryan Paget, V14/21
