Day 8 – Command Day Youth Captain Dahna Pt 1

Part OneArgh me hearties, Youth Captain Dahna here, after taking command of the ship at 1300 by accepting the hat of knowledge and the telescope of truth the Youth Crew officially took command of the ship. We received our list of 22 tasks to complete over the next 24 hours, as well as our required destination. New groups were formed and renamed as the Legends, Champions, and the Mediterranean Muscles. Our fantastic youth crew consists of Rachel, Courtney, Oles and Matt J with their watch leader Donna. In group 2 we have Ally, Amanda, Becky, Damo, Adam T and their watch leader Bec. In group 3 is Hannah, Koby, Adam R, Kate, Ashton with their watch leader Matt. Our sail master is Shaun, Navigator Bec, Watch Officers Daniel, David and Suzi, Watch Leaders, Donna, Matt and Bec, and our Chefs the Snowflakes Maddie, Kristin and Tibby. We have an amazing team and everyone has done an amazing job, we are so lucky to have so many young and talented people on board and it has made the journey so much better. Task one that we completed was to claim a little piece of land for the youth of Australia, so we decided to claim the beach of Mooloolaba. We sent a boat (with the motor removed and replaced with paddles) with six of our youth crew, dressed to the nines in sailor costumes, pirate hats and pink cow boy hats. Once arriving on land they convinced the local surf life saving club to let us use their flag pole to hoist the Australian flag, and then let us call out over the loud speaker to convince the entire beach to join us in our quest. We ended up having around one hundred people singing the national anthem; in that hundred was a group of school kids on their way to Underwater World who also helped us to hoist the flag. This singing was broadcasted to the rest of the ship via radio and the ships horn was blown at the end to the great amusement of those left onboard. While the six youth crew were ashore we had the rest of our crew working on another task, to draw a mural in chalk at midships. After a little work from the very creative members of our team we had a brilliant drawing of the Young Endeavour, complete with the sun and moon, stars, magic dragons, deep sea monsters and all manner of sea creatures.
