Hi Everyone, Welcome to day 10 of our voyage. The Youth Crew awoke to fine morning with that cool Tasmanian ‘nip’ in the air. Following a short morning brief the anchor was weighed and we transited the short distance to Sullivans Cove where we berthed port side to Princess Wharf at 0900. After a quick tidy up of the ship and 10 days of garbage landed we welcomed 22 guests from Richmond Fellowship and 8 Defence Personnel from Anglesea Barracks onboard. Following my welcome address and James safety brief lines were cast off, we departed our berth then proceeded out into the Derwent River were engines were shut down and the ship brought under sail. During the three hours that followed our guests got to see the Youth Crew in action as they climbed aloft, set and furled sails and tacked ship. They also got to enjoy some of the Chef’s Marcos’s amazing food which was served by our ever attentive Youth Crew. As normal the 3hrs passed far too quickly but everyone had a memorable time. At 1300 we again berthed back at Princess Wharf where we farewelled our guests then the Youth Crew went ashore with their respective Watch Leaders to Salamanca where they completed end of voyage talks. By 1500 everyone was back onboard and following a quick brief the Youth Crew proceeded aloft and completed a good set of harbour furls (very neat furls). At 1700 in near perfect conditions we achieved a well executed sail off our berth (not an easy thing to do) then conducted a short passage across to Bellerive coming safely at 1730. Once at anchor we enjoyed a pizza dinner which was followed by the Youth Crews completion of end of voyage questionnaires and ‘letters to themselves, which are returned to each Youth Crew member six months after voyage completion. Whilst the Youth Crew were completing these final administration tasks the Staff Crew took the opportunity to conduct their end of voyage debrief. To finish the night’s activities we have just screened the very popular voyage slideshow which gave everyone the opportunity to reflect back on their experiences during the past 10 days. . Tomorrow morning we will depart our anchorage, man the yards and berth at Hobart’s Princess Wharf for the final time for this voyage where I am sure that we will be welcomed by a number of family, friends and local well wishers. Once alongside family and friends will be invited onboard for a tour of the ship and to witness my final address and the presentation of Certificates of Achievement to all of the Youth Crew. Following this presentation we will say our final emotional farewell to the Youth Crew of Voyage 03/17 as they depart the ship. On a personal note, I would like to thank all of the Youth Crew of Voyage 03/17 for the great effort that you have put in throughout this voyage. You are a wonderful group of young Australians and all of the Staff Crew of Young Endeavour have thoroughly enjoyed sailing with you. Young Endeavour will remain alongside in Hobart until the 14th February 17 when we will embark our fourth Youth Crew for 2017 and sail for Melbourne. Until next voyage, take care Yours Aye Captain Gav
