Day 1 – Sydney

Ahoy there everyone, Welcome to Young Endeavour\’s 22nd and last voyage for 2010, following the Sydney to Hobart race fleet. Our journey started this morning at 0800 when 25 intrepid former Youth Crew members joined the ship at Fleet Base East Woolloomooloo under a damp and overcast sky. After welcomes and safety briefs Young Endeavour cast off lines at 0930 and motored to her scheduled anchorage to watch the race start from Watsons Bay. After a hearty lunch all hands laid aloft on the yards and watched a magnificent race start unfold at 1300 under clearing blue skies. With all competitors passed Young Endeavour weighed anchor at 1328 and followed the race fleet out of Sydney Harbour shaping a course south motor sailing as the Youth Crew under the direction of their Watch Leaders refreshed their memories with the intricacies of sailing a Tall Ship whilst concurrently observing the rear of the race fleet. At 1745 the ship encountered the forecast Southerly front which provided an awe inspiring cloud formation and 35 knot winds. The Youth Crew have now settled into watches overnight as Young Endeavour continues to follow the race fleet south along the NSW south coast.Until tomorrow evening, take care.Yours ayeCaptain Damien
