YOUNG ENDEAVOUR was handed over to the Youth Crew for their Command Day at 1000 this morning. Please find attached Captains Log entry from Captain Tim the "Captain elect" for the first 12 hours of Command Day.
CAPTAINS LOG - VOYAGE 06/08
What a day. What a week!
Currently travelling at 4.5 knots, wind is remaining stubborn and refusing give us anything useful and I don't think I could be happier. We are successfully moving 250 tonnes of steel, rope and timber without the aid of engines and it feels fantastic.
I am immensely proud to have been elected captain by my fellow Youth Crew but equally, if not more so of the initiative and resolve displayed by all on board. In addition to 8 amazing days filled with new experiences, new friends and new challenges, we have been through some trying conditions - enjoying fantastic food every single day, waking up before 10am and dealing with uncooperative winds
I would like to take my opportunity to contribute to the captain's log to thank each member of the Young Endeavour crew for making this voyage so much more than the incredible experience it has been. I think I speak on behalf of everybody on board in saying I have enjoyed every single moment on board this ship, even cleaning the toilets. No mum, that is not an offer!
This trip has certainly been a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I am so glad to have been given the chance to participate in such a rewarding program.
Cap'n Tim Vincent.
Note: since I started writing this, the wind gods seem to have finished playing with us and we're now steaming along at 6 knots! 22 of the youth crew high in the air above deck, still loving every moment.
