COMMAND DAY BEGAN WITH THE HANDOVER OF THE SHIP FROM CAPTAIN BRENTON TO OUR FABULOUS YOUTH CAPTAIN SARAH. THE YOUTH CREW CONDUCTED A HIGHLY ENTERTAINING MORNING BRIEF WITH MACCA PLAYING THE PART SALTY
SEA DOG, AND KATE, TRUDY, AND CATHY SINGING US A SONG. THE STAFFIES ENJOYED THE ROLE REVERSAL AND TOOK FULL OPPORTUNITY TO HECKLE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. THEY'RE GOOD AT IT TOO.
THE BEACH ASSULT TEAM WAS LAUNCHED SHORTLY AFTER. THEIR MISSION,WHICH THEY CHOOSE TO ACCEPT, WAS TO ROW TO SHORE (DUNK ISLAND), AND GATHER AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE TO SING THE NATIONAL ANTHEM IN A CELEBRATION OF THE NATION'S YOUTH. THEY DID A FANTASTIC JOB OF HEARDING TOGETHER THIRTY, YES, THIRTY PEOPLE TO SING.
WHILE THEY WERE AWAY QUITE A FEW OF THE BOYS SET ABOUT CONSTRUCTING A ROPE HAMMOCK OVER MIDSHIPS. IN THE END, IT WAS BIG ENOUGH AND STRONG ENOUGH TO SUPPORT THE ENTIRE YOUTH CREW AS WELL AS ALL THE STAFF
MEMBERS. WELL DONE GUYS.
UPON THE BAT RETURN WE RAISED ANCHOR, AND SET SAIL. SOME TEETHING PROBLEMS CROPPED UP, BUT IN THE END WE HAD OUR SAILS SET, AND LEAVING DUNK ISLAND BEHIND US, MOVING ONLY WITH WIND DRIVE AND NO ENGINES.
WITH THE NAVIGATORS BUSY PLOTTING AWAY VARIOUS COURSES TO SET WAYPOINTS, OTHER PROJECTS WERE BEING WORKED UPON. KATE AND TRUDY DESIGNED A BEAUTIFUL MURAL ON THE DECK, HOODY WORKED HARD AWAY AT TYING AS MANY COMPLICATED KNOTS AS HE COULD FIND, THE COOKS PREPARED A SPECIAL THEME DINNER (PIRATES, ARRR. GOOD FOOD TOO.), AND ALWAYS
CAPTAIN SARAH AND X.O. NEILY (MUM AND DAD) WERE CHECKING UP TO SEE HOW THEY WERE GOING.
WE ARRIVED IN CAIRNS AT 0730 THIS MORNING, RIGHT ON TIME, WITH THE ONLY MISHAP OF THE ENTIRE DAY INVOLVING A SHOWER CURTAIN BECOMING CAUGHT IN A FURLING DRUM. NOT EXACTLY HIGH DRAMA. OH, AND STONII
LEAVING CUPS EVERYWHERE. THANK YOU, STONII.
WE ALL DID A FANTASTIC JOB, AND HAD A GREAT TIME DOING IT. ALTHOUGH WE'RE ALL EXHAUSTED, WE ARE HAPPY LITTLE VEGEMITES, AND WOULD DO IT ALL AGAIN IN A SNAP. CONGRATS TO SARAH AND ALL THE YOUTH CREW. PAT ON THE BACK, EVERYONE.

TESSA, MELBOURNE
