Another Great Day Under Sail

Hi Everyone, Overnight we continued to make steady progress north and by sunrise this morning we were located 7nm to the south east of Yamba. Just prior to morning brief the wind freshened to 15kts from the north west and we were able to shut down engines and bring the ship under a full press of fore and aft sail. Given these perfect conditions the Watch Leaders took the opportunity to sit down with their watches and complete mid voyage talks. During the afternoon the wind backed to the west and strengthened to 20kts which provided excellent sailing conditions and enabled us to complete a very good set of demonstrational tacks. This activity gives the Youth Crew the opportunity to come to the bridge and observe tacking the ship from the commands perspective. Early this evening we rounded Cape Byron and witnessed a spectacular sunset over mainland Australia’s most eastern point. Overnight the Youth Crew will conduct their apples and onions’ exercise which is a peer assessment activity as the ship continues to make ground to the north. At present speed we plan to proceed to anchor at the northern point of Stradbroke Island early tomorrow afternoon.Until tomorrow, take care.Yours AyeCaptain Gav
