Ahoy Shipmates,
Sunrise this morning found Young Endeavour 15nm to the east of the Backstairs Passage sailing under all squares and making good a respectable speed of 7kts. After the normal morning activities I conducted Captain's Setting and Furling Drills, this activity is designed for the YC to prove to me that they are safe at setting and furling sails, which of course they were. This activity was followed by another one of Chad's fantastic lunches. By early afternoon we had safely passed through the very scenic Backstairs Passage and were making our approach into Eastern Cove on Kangaroo Island. At this stage the wind abated so all sail was handed in and the ship proceeded to anchor in our planned anchorage position at the picturesque American River (located in Eastern Cove) utilising main engines. Once safely at anchor the YC were ferried ashore to the local beach were they completed mid voyage talks followed by a competitive round of beach sports and a swim for those brave enough to enter the very cool water. Following a memorable afternoon ashore everyone returned onboard to enjoy another teak deck BBQ dinner, which tonight was cooked by Sumo the Engineer. This evening I conducted the Command Day Brief which was followed by the Command Team elections. With these formalities now complete, the YC have settled into their anchor watches for the night with all endeavouring to get a good night's sleep in preparation for the commencement of tomorrows much anticipated Command Day.

Until Tomorrow, take care.

Yours Aye

Captain Gav
