A few key points to remember:

  • If you have already sailed aboard Young Endeavour you are not eligible to apply unless the voyage is specified as being a Returnee Youth Crew voyage.
  • Only one online application is accepted per person, however this application can be updated at any time.
  • A 20% deposit will be required once your berth is offered. This must be paid with 14 days.
  • Standard voyage fee of $1750.00 applies.
  • If you are aged under 18, your parent or guardian must give permission for you to participate in the voyage.

Eligibility

  • You must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident,
  • You must be 16 to 23 years old on the day of departure of your selected voyages,
  • You must be able to swim 50 metres and be in good health, and,
  • You must weigh less that 120kg.

If selected, your offer is provisional until you make full payment and all forms sent to you are completed, signed, returned and cleared by the Young Endeavour Youth Scheme.

Health and Fitness

PLEASE NOTE there are certain medical conditions, including some controlled by medication, which preclude participation in the voyage. These are:

  • Diabetes Mellitus
  • Epilepsy
  • Depression and Mental Illness treated by medication
  • Severe Asthma
  • Communicable Diseases such as Chicken Pox, Glandular Fever, German Measles, Hepatitis or HIV(AIDS)
  • Broken or sprained limbs
  • Pregnancy
  • If participation is considered inappropriate by the applicant's doctor

If selected for a voyage, your offer is provisional until you complete a health check by your own GP, which includes your doctor's approval for you to undertake the voyage. This may then be subject to further approval by the Navy Fleet Medical Officer.

Selection

  • On each voyage there are berths for 12 male and 12 female youth crew.
  • Only one application per person is accepted. You must accept the terms and conditions online before your application can proceed.
  • You can apply for as many voyages as you like but think carefully about the voyages you nominate, taking into consideration events which may effect your availability such as exam time, leave from work, family events, travel time and costs etc. Only nominate the voyages you are prepared to sail on.
  • Selection for voyages is by electronic ballot conducted by the Young Endeavour Youth Scheme.
  • The Scheme will advise you by mail of the result of your application within 14 days of the relevant closing date's.
  • If you change your address after applying, please let us know so we know how to contact you.
  • If you are not successful in the ballot, your application will be kept on a waiting list in case of cancellations throughout the year. You may be selected to join a voyage at short notice.
  • Berths are allocated to States and Territories on a pro-rata population basis
  • If you previously sailed on a Young Endeavour voyage you are not eligible to apply for voyages unless it is for a defined Returnee Youth Crew voyage.

Financial Assistance

The Young Endeavour Youth Scheme offers financial assistance for a limited number of applicants.

You can apply for financial assistance for any voyages provided you meet the following criteria at the time of your application and for the duration of your voyage.

If you have not submitted a Financial Assistance application, you cannot request financial assistance after the ballot has been held.

  • To be eligible for Financial Assistance, you must:
  • Be receiving an ongoing benefit payment from Centrelink, such as Newstart Allowance or Youth Allowance.
  • If you are under 18 and living at home with a parent who receives a Centrelink benefit such as a Supporting Parent Benefit or Disability Support you may also be eligible.

  • Attach a short letter to your application explaining your reasons for requesting financial assistance.
  • Attach supporting information from Centrelink as proof of your financial circumstances, such as an Income Statement available from Centrelink. (if you are unable to supply this proof you will be invoiced for the full voyage fee).
  • If you are successful in the ballot, you will need to pay the amount of your voyage fee of $550 and in addition you will need to arrange and pay for your own travel to and from the ship.

Travel

You need to organise and pay for your own travel to and from the voyage.

If you are a resident of WA or NT we offer a reduced voyage fee of $1,550 (standard voyage fee is $1,750 less a $200 travel assistance subsidy). If you need more information please contact the Voyage Coordinator on 1800 020 444.

APPLICATION TYPE

Please indicate whether your are applying for a regular berth or a financially assisted berth. Be aware that there are limited berths for financially assisted youth crew and that by applying for financial assistance, you will not be considered for a regular berth.
